Schiedam's Lange Haven the shining star in Rome SCHIEDAM – Schiedam’s Lange Haven (Long Harbour) will be in the international spotlights as from Wednesday and for the following two weeks. Photographer Jan Sluijter (46) has been approached by the Art Gallery Ginko Spazio, to join a international Photo Exhibition at Casina Valadier, a prestigious Restaurant and Exposition location in the heart of Rome. Along with two other works, a picture of the White House in Rotterdam and 'Row of Canalhouses in Amsterdam”, are on display from 24 September to 10 October in the Italian capital.
"They found me 'via Flickr,' "says Sluijter, who has an account on the online international photo platform. “Flickr selects pictures for the Explore page (the page with the daily highlights) and I have been on it quite often in recent days. I guess they have seen my pictures there and than continued looking at my photostream”. Sluijter was asked to send in 10 pictures for an exhibition themed 'Water and the relationship that men has with water in architecture and urbanism. "Out of these ten pictures, Spazio Ginko chose the cityscapes from Schiedam, Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
The “Schiedammer” is quite pleased with the selection. ”Three different cities, but they fit well together. They make a true Dutch cityscape. "I especially like the selection of the Schiedam picture. Rotterdam is has a lot of attention due to all new architectural projeccts in the city".
The picture of the Lange Haven is a composition. ,,Otherwise, it is almost impossible to have the dramatic sky together with the clear reflections in the water” says Sluijter. Jan Sluijter used to be an HR Manager and is now "in between jobs". "To become a professional photographer would be a great job. Let’s see what happens!
